Thank You for Attending the Highway of Tears Awareness Walk

,

Suchanailya. Thank you to the members of Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation who travelled to Prince George to take part in the Highway of Tears 20th Anniversary Awareness Walk, hosted by Carrier Sekani Family Services.

The day was organized my Lhoosk’uz Event Planner Shania Chantyman, and it was marked by reflection, community, and a shared commitment to raising awareness.

As Shania shares:

“On April 7th, 2026, Lhoosk’uz took a handful of band members to Prince George for the day to take part in the Highway of Tears 20th Anniversary Awareness Walk, hosted by Carrier Sekani. It was an incredibly meaningful event, and we felt truly honored to participate.

The walk began early that morning, as we had to leave Quesnel by 7 a.m., but the early start was absolutely worth it. We walked from the Highway of Tears Monument to the Civic Centre, alongside members of the Prince George community and many others who came out to support this important cause. The sense of unity and shared purpose was inspiring, and it was a powerful reminder of the importance of raising awareness about the issues faced along the Highway of Tears.

I am very grateful for everyone who joined us and supported this event. Their presence and support made the day even more special, and it reinforced the importance of community effort in bringing about positive change.

Thank you for taking the time to read about this meaningful day. It’s always inspiring to see communities come together to support such vital causes, and I feel fortunate to have been part of it.

Thank you,
Shania”
