Proposed Caribou Restoration Areas

The map below shows the viable restoration areas proposed by LDN based on overlapping UFN and LDN Territories, overlap with the Tweedsmuir Herd range (the impacted caribou herd), connectivity to protected areas and corridors that would benefit the Tweedsmuir herd.  High priority areas to be restored first are shown in orange and low priority areas to be considered after restoration has progressed and could impact recovery in the future are shown in blue.

These are the same areas proposed in s. 4.3.6 of the CMMP, except for one area removed in the southwest based on updated research that shows it is not within the Tweedsmuir herd migration corridor.

Pursuant to the CMMP, the Nations will lead implementation of restoration and will select certain areas within the larger areas as priorities based on changes in the landscape and caribou herds. Before the Nations can commence work, the Province and the Nations must agree on the proposed restoration areas.

Lhooskuz is also in the process of researching the impact of Mountain Pine Beetle to Caribou.
