Dear Members,
In just a few days, our Nation will come together for an important moment: our first Chief election in over 20 years.
We know there are strong feelings in the community right now. People care deeply about the future of Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation, about how decisions are made and about who will lead us forward. Those feelings and opinions matter. Every member deserves to have a voice.
We are asking that, in these final days before the election, we make space for those voices with respect and care for one another.
We want to be clear that abuse, intimidation, or harassment of staff, council members, and candidates will not be tolerated in person or online. Our staff and council must be able to safely do their work for the community, just as every member must be able to safely participate in the election and express their views.
We all have a responsibility for how we speak to and about one another, whether we are members, staff, leadership, or candidates. We can disagree. We can ask hard questions. We can feel strongly about the direction of our Nation. But we can do those things without intimidation, harassment, or personal attacks.
Earlier this year, our community came together to vote on the Custom Election Code. Members showed up, participated, and made their voices heard. That was something to be proud of. It showed what we can accomplish when we take part in the decisions that shape our future.
On August 27, we have another opportunity to do exactly that.
If you have strong feelings about the future of our Nation, if you want change, if you want to support the direction we are heading, or if you simply want your voice to count, express it with your vote.
This is our community and our election. No matter who we support, we will still be Lhoosk’uz Dené after the votes are counted.
Let’s make this an election our community can be proud of.
