Community Notice: Leadership Update

The following is an update to the members of Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation, on behalf of Council and Administration.

We would like to share an update with our community.

June Baptiste has stepped down from her role as Acting Chief and Baptiste/Cassam Clan Councillor for personal reasons. We extend our sincere thanks for June’s leadership and contributions to the community during her time in this role, and we wish her well.

Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation’s governance and operations remain stable. Council and Administration continue to work together to ensure continuity, accountability, and the ongoing delivery of programs and services to members.

The Nation is continuing its work on the ratification of a written Custom Election Code. This process will be completed by a third party and, once complete, will allow the Nation to move toward electing a Chief through the petition process under the new Code. While this process takes time, it is an important step toward strengthening governance and ensuring leadership reflects the will of the community.

As we move closer to ratification, we will be sharing more detailed information about the Custom Code, election/petition process, timelines, and what members can expect.

We recognize that times of transition can raise questions. We want to assure members that this work is moving forward with care, transparency, and a focus on long-term stability.

Thank you for your patience, trust, and continued engagement as we take these important steps together.

Sincerely,

Council and Administration
