Work Day: 8:30AM – 4:30PM, Ending at 12:00PM every other Friday.

Job Description

This position is part of the Summer Work Experience Program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), which aims to support Indigenous youth in gaining valuable skills and work experience to help prepare them for future employment and continued education. The Summer Student will contribute to various community-based projects and services while developing key employability and professional skills. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a workplace setting, engage with community members, and support ongoing initiatives that benefit the LDN community.

General Responsibilities

The employee is expected to perform their duties and responsibilities to the best of their abilities, to use good judgement in the performance of these duties and to abide by the policies and regulations of Lhoosk’uz Dene Nation. The employee is also expected to:

  • Assist in organizing and supporting community events, including the annual Pow Wow and other departmental events.
  • Engage with and support both youth and Elders within the community through activities, outreach, and programs.
  • Provide information and resources to community members related to health, wellness, and local services.
  • Help prepare and distribute educational and promotional materials relevant to the community.
  • Support visiting service providers by coordinating logistics and acting as a liaison when needed.
  • Participate in community clean-up efforts and assist in beautification projects around the reserve and community areas.
  • Assist with meal preparation and food service for events and gatherings.
  • Contribute to administrative and office tasks as required (e.g., filing, data entry, communications).
  • Conduct basic research to support community planning or awareness initiatives.
  • Promote participation in events and activities with the Event Planner, especially among youth and other target groups.
  • Assist with community clean up initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nation.
  • Follow all Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation policies and procedures.
  • Professional appearance suitable to the position.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality relating to all Nation matters and its members.

  • Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse age groups, including youth and Elders.

  • Demonstrate dedication to the role and to the Lhoosk’uz Dené community.

Education and Experience

  • A Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation Band Member aged 15 to 30.
  • Have been registered as a full-time student during the past academic year and plan to return to school full-time in the fall.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
