Candidate for Chief Application Deadline

Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation will hold an Election for Chief on August 27, 2026. Any voting member who intends to stand as a candidate for Chief must provide the Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation Councillors with the requirements by this deadline.

No later than July 28, 2026, at 5:00 PM, any voting member who intends to stand as a candidate for Chief must provide the Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation Councillors with:

1) a written statement of intention to stand for election as chief; and
2) confirmation that the candidate meets the eligibility requirements in the Code.
3) proof of a Criminal Record Check.

Important Information

To be a candidate for the position of chief a person must:

a) have been a registered member of the Nation for at least five (5) years;
b) be the full age of eighteen (18) years or older on the day on which the election shall be held;
c) have not been previously removed from a position of chief or councillor pursuant to section 58 of this Code within six (6) years prior to the election date;
d) have not been convicted of a violent or sexual offence;
e) have not been found liable in any court or tribunal for fraud, theft, or other acts of dishonesty;
f) not owe any money to the Nation;
g) abstain from using alcohol or recreational drugs during their candidacy and, if elected, during their term of office; and
h) abstain from engaging in any excessive gambling or games of chance involving risking actual money during their candidacy and, if elected, during their term of office.
