The Nation is pleased to announce that eligible voting members have voted to approve and adopt the Nation’s Custom Election Code.
A total of 97 ballots were cast. Of those ballots, 65 per cent voted in favour of ratifying the Custom Election Code.
This marks an important milestone for the Nation and reflects many years of work, discussion, and community engagement. Efforts to develop a written Custom Election Code began prior to the 1990s and continued through many stages of consultation, revisions, and setbacks over the years.
The Nation extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this process, including past and present Chief and Council, staff, Elders, and community members who shared their time, knowledge, perspectives, and guidance throughout the development of the Code.
The adoption of a written Custom Election Code represents an important step in strengthening the Nation’s governance according to its own customs, values, and traditions. It provides a clear framework for future elections and supports the Nation’s ongoing path toward self-determination.
Following these results, the next step will be to organize and conduct an election in accordance with the newly adopted Custom Election Code. Information regarding nominations, election procedures, and timelines will be shared with members as it becomes available.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this historic vote.
